Step into a hidden world of creativity and possibility! Join us on 1st May 2026, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Durham Castle’s Fellows’ Garden for Wild Imagining, an immersive event for artists, performers, musicians, dancers, workshop leaders, arts students, and anyone passionate about bringing creative work into outdoor spaces.
Durham Castle is the home of University College, one of the 17 colleges of Durham University. The Fellows’ Garden has rarely been open to the general public, making this a unique chance to explore a previously secret space. Recently reimagined following an alumni campaign, the garden is now being opened up by the University College team for wider creative use, offering a fresh canvas for performances, installations, and artistic experimentation.
At this event, you’ll:
- Wander through the Fellows’ Garden and discover its hidden potential for creative projects.
- Hear about exciting opportunities to perform, create, and collaborate with Wild Imagining, an Arts Council England initiative exploring how the arts enrich Durham’s green spaces.
- Enjoy a talk by Jane Lovell from Canterbury Christ Church University on the power of the arts in placemaking, magical tourism, and boosting social, economic, and cultural wellbeing.
The morning also includes:
- Tea, coffee, and plenty of time for networking
- Opportunities to share ideas and explore new ways of creating outdoor work
- An optional concluding tour of Durham Castle for those who want to see the wider site
What you’ll go away with:
- Fresh inspiration for creating work in outdoor and green spaces
- Knowledge of performance, collaboration, and funding opportunities
- Valuable connections with fellow artists and creative practitioners
- Practical ideas for using the arts to enrich public spaces and communities
- Insights into the social, economic, and cultural impact of creative projects
Come ready to imagine boldly, explore freely, and connect with a community of outdoor creatives.
Reserve your place and be among the first to experience the Fellows’ Garden as a new hub for creative imagination!
