Event Details

Join us for a creative walking workshop exploring the Durham City Green Corridor—an opportunity to experience the city’s green and blue spaces, connect with fellow creatives, and help shape the future of this exciting project.

Beginning and ending at National Trust Crook Hall, we’ll take a gentle guided walk through part of the Green Corridor, pausing along the way to observe, discuss and reflect on the places that matter. Through conversation and shared exploration, you’ll be invited to contribute ideas for how the Green Corridor could evolve, identifying opportunities, priorities and creative ways it can support people, nature and the city.

The Durham City Green Corridor stretches for approximately 10.5km along the River Wear, running northeast from the edge of Durham City near Crook Hall Gardens. Since 2022, the National Trust and Durham County Council have been working together to enhance the corridor, creating better connections for people and wildlife while improving access to nature and exploring how these spaces can contribute to a healthier, more sustainable city. This workshop offers a chance for artists and creative practitioners to contribute to that vision, helping shape how creativity can play a role in the future of the Green Corridor.

Our walk starts at National Trust Crook Hall, a historic medieval hall surrounded by beautiful gardens, woodland and riverside walks. As one of Durham’s most treasured green spaces, it provides the perfect setting to begin a conversation about landscape, heritage, creativity and the role of nature in our everyday lives.

This workshop is also an opportunity to meet and exchange ideas with other local artists and creative practitioners. Whether you already work outdoors, are interested in place-based practice, or are simply curious about how green and blue spaces can inspire creativity, we’d love you to join us. Your ideas and perspectives will help inform the ongoing development of the Durham City Green Corridor while sparking new conversations, collaborations and inspiration.

Please wear sturdy footwear and dress appropriately for the weather.
